Washi Tape Inspiration

Hello Friends!

Yesterday was not a red-letter day. Any day that involves having your cat's esophagus scoped while she's under anesthesia isn't anything you want to write home - or blog - about. Everyone's all okay but it certainly kept me away from my computer!

But today, today...a complete 180 from yesterday! Today I got new hair (cut and color), visited one of my favorite places (more on that next week), spent some time designing in Silhouette Studio and finished up a project on a little chipboard box I picked up at Michael's awhile ago.

Anyway... while I was clearing and arranging and cleaning my studio yesterday, I came across a stash of Washi tape (that I'd been trying to find for about 6 months (another reason for the studio cleanup))! I also rediscovered a plain white box that I'd been wanting to cover with something.

And then, inspiration: box + washi tape = pretty! (Anyone see that coming?)

Washi tape is so fun - the range of colors and styles is amazing. I think it originated in Japan but I know it's used by crafters and creative types everywhere. The colors used to cover this box are so bright and vibrant.

Washi tape is very forgiving, too. I was able to lift and reposition it several times as I needed to. The only downside is that it doesn't have long-term sticking power - something I'll have to be addressing in the near term. For the time being, I love the way it turned out. The colors remind me of spring.

The secret to success for this project was using a plain white box. If I'd used a kraft-colored paper mache box, the colors would have looked a little muddier; the brown kraft color would have shown through any white areas in the tape.

Quick and easy projects like this are really satisfying, creatively speaking. It's awesome to picture something in your mind and have it turn out, almost exactly, as you'd imagined. Simple joys.

I'm off to bed now but don't forget to check back tomorrow for download files!
