Hello friends!
Tomorrow is May Day and by tradition, May baskets (small baskets of sweets and/or flowers) were left anonymously on neighbors doorsteps or doorknobs to celebrate the arrival of spring. To mark the day in style, I designed these flowers...just in time to decorate a neighbor's doorstep or doorknob and officially welcome the season.
I think the flowers turned out fun and festive...a little party in a vase. They work perfectly for me: they last forever and won't be destroyed by Chloe, our kit-cat who eats all plant material - fresh or dried - that comes into our home. I think she's smart enough to leave these alone!
I used a lot of pattern in these flowers and my current (almost!) favorite color - red. The centers are fabric- covered buttons; so easy to make and they add another element of texture to the design. I plan on designing the flowers in other colors - I'll post pictures when they're done.
I didn't create a download file from today's post but don't fret! I'm planning on putting together a kit with all of the components so you don't have to run around and collect the bits and pieces for yourself. I'll get it all together in the kit and you can just make them and pop them in a vase.
Speaking of vases, the little vase that holds these flowers is vintage milk glass and it, too, has a sweet quilted pattern that I love (very similar to the mason jar from yesterday's post). These vases are really common and can still be easily found, if you're interested, in thrift stores, on ebay, or at flea markets. They can usually be had for less than $5 - inexpensive enough to start your own collection.
Hope you like these flowers in red...in what other color would you like to see them?
Stay tuned...
