Hello Monday!
I hope everyone had a great weekend and a sweet and memorable Mother's Day.
I love white-on-white design. It's so clean and crisp looking, very classic. I love the look of dotted Swiss fabric, too - cotton dotted Swiss, that is, not nylon! It reminds me of little white polka dots and you know how I feel about polka dots.
What? You don't know how I feel about polka dots? Well, polka dots make me happy. So you can imagine how I feel about those little white ones all over dotted Swiss fabric - and all over the butterflies on this wreath, too.
I've been working on this wreath in m mind for awhile. I don't know why I was hesitant to make it but I'm glad I finally did - it turned out very much like I imagined it. It would be great as decoration for weddings and bridal or baby showers.
It's hard to photograph white and get all of the detail, especially white-on-white. From a distance, the detail in the butterflies is almost lost. The closer you get, the more visible the detail becomes. The wreath wouldn't be nearly as pretty without the texture of the raised dots on the butterflies.
I used an embroidery hoop for the wreath form. I glued the two rings together to make a sturdier base for gluing the butterflies. I painted the hoop white and, while it dried, cut out the butterflies on my Silhouette cutter. I ran them through an embossing folder to add the swiss dot design and texture. Then I glued the large butterflies flat to the wreath form at equal distances around the circle. Next, I folded the smaller butterflies at center and glued them to the spaces between the large butterflies. When everything was dry, I tied a pink ribbon around the top of the embroidery hoop to hang the wreath from.
I think spring is the perfect season for a beautiful butterfly wreath. Don't you?
Stay tuned.
